Ralph Farias Jr for Hayward City Council
My questionnaire from the Daily Review
How would you revitalize downtown Hayward and south Mission Boulevard?
This is a mutli answer question. If elected I would work push to have less restriction on red tape for businesses. Hayward is one of the most unfriendly cities when it comes to new businesses. We need that to change. Next we need to hire a marketing firm to better brand our city to the Bay Area Business Community, similar to Beneficial, Fremont and Walnut Creek. Next work directly with building owners to push for tenants and reward those who fill their buildings. Next clear out the Green Shutter, that has became a haven for negativity for down town. Make it apartments for those who are looking to spend money, attract young professionals.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What would you do to address the city’s unfunded liabilities and increased pension and health care costs?
This is a tough subject. What we need to do as a company, thats what the citys role is, is to work diligently and find a half way point without breaking the bank. In business you need to always work with your staff and have them also understand what the financial bottom lines are and at the same time also talk about cost effective ways to help your staff. From there we would find some course of action to lead to a solution, I would create incentives for those who look for different routes and not the convention route.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Other than the above, what is Hayward’s biggest challenge and what would be your plan to meet it?

The biggest problem with Hayward is Funding! our Schools are in disarray , our city is filled with blithe, we do not have enough officers on patrol, but our city continues to ask for raised taxes and increased wages. How do you do that when your town does not have money to spend? We need to become more business friendly, and not just down town, we have a heavy vacancy rate in our industrial end of the city. We need to become business friendly and at the same time attract those who have more expendable income. We need to cater to the young professionals, we need to cater to all the students attending our many schools, we need to re brand our city. Marketing is key to any businesses growth. If elected I would take a page out of San Francisco’s notebook and attract bigger businesses by giving tax breaks to those companies. With the tax break it will make it easier for a company wanting to select our city. With that break it will lead to more employees potentially moving to our city which could lead to more revenue spent at our local businesses. If elected I would work with many firms in attracting businesses to our city. Hayward’s biggest problem is its image among business owners. We need to be that city who embraces change and embraces businesses. I also believe in pop up businesses. I would work diligently with building owners to let potential pop up business occur in their buildings. That would create traffic and that could potentially lead to permanent occupancy.
It’s Fourth and Goal! if you dont speak football Jargon then its means its your last chance to score/win. This  letter I got today was Very true on Al Mendall and how he voted against Walmart, Its not an attack on his character but an attack on his idiotic policies! April Flew by faster than a New york Minute. It has a been an interesting Month. One thing I noticed It has gotten Dirty, with Hate letters, mentioning Personal things, either true or false, around. I received a very personal letter about Greg Which I thought was out of line. Whatever you may think, Personal things that are outside the realm of city council should not be counted on when policies are being brought up. Who marries who, what one person does for a hobby. Its politics!In one of the letters it said "in the future, please serve and honor the grand legacy of legitimate reporting, okay? More like Ben Bradlee and less from Larry Flynt, Please." How corn ball can you become! What is this the 1950’s? I thought we lived in the great country of the United States, not  Iraq! We have the freedom of speech. Whatever happened to "Sticks and Stones may break out bones but words will never hurt me! " In the end of the  letter that was sent to me, it gave an anonymous name.  man another reason we need to END THE PUSSICATION of America! Man up! Stop acting weak. Speak up! if you dont like something then do something else , no one makes anyone do what they don’t want to do! the is not slavery!We have options in this country! Hayward, Stand UP!

MOTIVATION!YOLO (YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE)

So I got an email from a resident in Hayward that recently saw me at the Mission Hills debate. He likes my ideas and he has been in contact with another resident about me. This is what the UNNAMED SUSPECT said about me:

ralph,
this is an email exchange i’m having with a guy that has some experience in hayward politics.  he’s not a bigwig, but i disguised his identity because i don’t have his permission to share this with you.

i hope this doesn’t discourage you.  i’m sending this to you with the thought that it might help you to know how an old fuddy duddy is thinking.

if you take full advantage of the social media, i believe you can have a real impact in this election.  it’s possible to get new young voters out.  they know this town by the street, and they know it’s not a friendly town government.  not friendly to business, not friendly to it’s own residents, particularly it’s own teens, and not friendly to students.

You are assuming young people vote - they may come out for the national election in November, but not for a local election in June.  Turnout  will probably be well below 50%.  He is not going to win just trying to get out younger voters. He has some good ideas and energy, but he is clueless about how to win.

The main candidates, in addition to the incumbents, are Greg Jones and Al Mendal.  One of the incumbents, probably Zermano or Henson, could get knocked out.  -t

    well, he definately has not a rat’s chance if he tries to win votes away from the incumbents.  the same six thousand people have been electing our council for years now.  he’s got to unabashedly go after new young votes and just write off the voters he’s not going to get anyway.

    social media, facebook, twitter, what if he could create a sort of flashmob thing at the ballot box?  in a town of 150,000 people, where it only takes 6,000 votes to get on the council, is not anything possible?

    paint the incumbents as old fuddy duddies, unfriendly to business, dispassionate to the concerns of the citizens, arrogant about what is good for hayward.  that shouldn’t be too difficult. i even thought of a bumper sticker for him  “LETS KICK FUDDY DUDDY”

So I say. Do all these non believers really have the belief that no one has any anger towards the city? I think there is so much anger towards the city that alot of people are in denial about what the issues are. They would rather take the conservative route and vote for these candidates that have names. But Remember I ran two years ago and people still know who I am. so i do have a name out there. I think these people are scared out of the breaches because If I do take a seat I will raise hell for these people!We need new Blood! We need Motivated people, not there pessimistic people! we need to make a difference! Not just for the current Residents but for the future and for our children. These people I call have the Ric Flair Mentality ! They do not have know how to “HANG IT UP!” Its sad. Let the younger people take over. Give up the Reigns already. If you see no progress with the current regime why let them run the car untill the car breaks down and needs to wind up at PIC-A-PART. So I ask you this doesnt it make sense to put some new blood in the veins of our great city? or let the cancers grow!

Hayward. STAND UP!

The Man in PINK! ( April 10th Debate)

Good Evening,

Last Night was very interesting. I walked in late because of the traffic . I got to attend a great Memorial to the  Bataan Death March. So from the Memorial at Cal State then directly to the League of Women Voters forum. It was jam packed because of the debate with Congressmen Pete Stark. I made a Hollywood entrance. When it started, it began with Introductions of each Candidates. Everyone had there overly prepared statements. Shouldn’t it be off the top of their head? Doesn’t that look like a script? Anyone can word something cleverly. A real politician should be based off of improvisation.

I pointed out many times that Candidate Al Mendal was Anti business. He voted against Walmart, which was ludicrous. We cant be picky in this economy who wants to give Hayward a chance for new business. The revenue that would be generated would have been awesome. But his basis was that it was illegal what was being pushed. I told him that if it was for the good of people then he can pass it. He gave a lame excuse about how the government doesn’t do anything illegal. Do I have to site many instances that the government has done illegal.

A. The Waco siege of February 28, 1993. Where many men, women, and children were burnt and shot to death by the ATF, local police, etc because of their erratic cult leader.

B. The wall-street melt down. Many of the higher ups in Washington new about what was going on in wall-street, but they continued to let this happen. Many families lost their homes, jobs and livelihood.

It may all sound like a fictional conspiracy novel but you put two and two together. You have to locate that smoking gun. We can not let any of these happen again or should we ever let any politician  get away with this behavior.  We must make them accountable and not let them run away into the abyss.

The residents of Hayward Have been let down by their politicians for years. How can we be the 5th largest city in the Bay Area and we dont have the type of commerce like smaller cities? It is all based on whose running the show at city hall. We need to get rid of this REGIME! We must Stand up to them. Get rid of this cheap Smoke and Mirror Act! During the Debate I pointed out the truth.

Without a proper economic balance and management our city will never progress but digress! We need a strong economy! we Need to be more welcoming to Businesses!!!!! We need to get rid of this Planning commission who continues to shoot down business opportunity! If given the opportunity I will re brand Hayward! Re-market Hayward ! Make Hayward Business Friendly.  With a strong Economy , we can improve our Education, our Aesthetics,  and fight crime more diligently!

Come by and Support

April 10th has much meaning to me. Its my Fathers Birthday but also 70 years ago one of the most tragic moments in Filipino history Happened “The Death March to Bataan”. Please Go to Cal State Hayward  Tuesday April 10th at 4 to 6 and learn about the Infamous March and listen to those who were there and were around to see the brutality. History is a thing we All need to learn and respect.

Later that night at city hall from 6-9 I will be part of the Candidates forum for the League of Women Voters. Lets the Bodys hit the floor!! Lets make a difference Hayward and lets get this city back on track!

Thanks

Ralph

Another Loss for Hayward! Thanks AL!

Last night was a heated appeals hearing at City Hall. The topic, Grant Walmart approval to open a Neighbor hood Market at the vacant Circuit City Building on Industrial/Whipple. From my what I saw was a planning commission that did not go by what the topic was about, if it is regional or sub regional. What they based there ideas were off of the decision not to open it because of the UFCW stronghold on them. Because its Walmart, thats why it had so much drama. If it was Whole Foods Market you wouldn’t see all these Union workers out there . We live in a free country to decide where we wanna live. The Majority of the people opposing the approval were union members and DID NOT LIVE in HAYWARD! So why do These people have to right to represent our community. There argument was that they would lose hours at work. Since Fresh&Easy opened up, I do not see any lose of jobs in Hayward.  Fresh&Easy by the way isnt a UNION COMPANY! So why was there this much Drama at the meeting last night, Because its “WALMART”  Since the opening of Walmart in union city, I haven’t seen any stores close, I actually have seen the economic growth of UNION CITY!

One of the Union members who spoke at the meeting gave a terrible example, His rational was, “if you look at  Hilltop mall its empty because of walmart!” what a fuccen moron!!! first of all people shop at walmart for certain goods, not buying JORDANS, or BUYING a dress at forever 21.  Before you give an example please  use some thought! dont look like a dumb ass!

One of the Members of the Planning Commission , is AL Mendall. I thought he was pro economic growth in Hayward! He voted NO against Walmart! Thanks AL! becuase of his contributions from the Union and his weak stance on Business, Hayward has lost another potential power house for business. We need Economic growth in our city!We need economic  growth, and money for our schools and for our residents. What this block has done is made HAYWARD, Closed for business! this is a terrible  Blemish on Hayward! We are strugling as a city, if you see mission blvd, Downtown Hayward, all you see is Vacancies!!! What Vacant buildings mean, NO TAX revenue! that means less available for public funds, and for the SCHOOLS!!!

So in conclusion, what happened last night was an abomination of hayward Politics! These planners Messed up big time, now what is the building owner going to do and what about the smaller businesses arround the vacant building going to do??? I hope they can survive! This Decision by the Planning commission will truly affect the outcome of future businesses wanting to open in Hayward! Thanks Guys!

The majority of the people who support Francisco arent business oriented. ONE THING WE NEED TO FOCUS is on BUSINESS, BUSINESS, and BUSINESS!!!! We have a major budget crisis in HAYWARD. in the fall ballot the city / school district will be asking you , the voter, to pass another parcel tax. YAY :( lets just tax the people even more. We need businesses in our city. We need to bring business back to Hayward. We need to generate the capitol to fund our city and our schools. We need to rebrand our city, we need to welcome businesses to our city. NOT THESE CAREER POLITICIANS! It makes me sick to see our city, which is the 5th largest city in the Bay Area, to be treated as a bed and breakfast! With your support , we can change the minds of the politicians and make Hayward the major city in the Bay Area it is suppose to be!

NO GIMMICKS, NO FRILLS, JUST THE TRUTH!

Bright lights, Big City!

Hello to all ,

I just got back from Las Vegas. I was attending a major  distributors conference and saw How the city is coping with its struggling economy. They are wanting Americas money, so should they! Las Vegas is Americas Playground. As you know during these hard times we tend to hold all of our chips, but the thing about economy we need to keep the money in the cycle thats called Americas Economy.  We need to spend money, spend it smart but spend it ! Why I am writing about Las Vegas you would ask, because its a perfect example what Hayward should do. We should invest into our local economy. We need to Re Market our city! We need invest into our city. This is our home, doesnt it make sense to upgrade our home, maybe new flowers or even new paint. Its an example of investing into what is yours. We need to invest into this city , we need businesses to want to move to Hayward. The investment we put back into our city will ultimately change the current direction which have been heading. So I ask you this. If you are happy with the current state of our city, then Vote for the incumbents, but if you want a better direction then inject new blood into the veins of our city, by electing new councilmen!

A view of a property that was run by former city manager Jesus Armos consulting firm. This was suppose to become a HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS, yes another hotel which is poorly planned and also a business which would fail because we do not have anyone to stay in it. Ask any Hotel property owner in our city, its slow as hell. This  is a prime example on what some of our former elected officials thinks of its residents. This is the former Hayward Thrifty Car sales property located on mission blvd. As youi can see there has been major neglect. This is a pure reflection on how the city sees its residents. We need to Stand up against this ideology and make the machine respect us!
